M&N Selwyn

This project involved the transformation and extension of a Victorian terraced house in Walthamstow, including both a rear extension and a new upper-level addition, creating a larger and more adaptable home for a growing family.

The design embraces a playful yet carefully considered material palette, with plywood used extensively throughout the interiors to create warmth, character and continuity. Bespoke plywood joinery and detailing bring a strong architectural identity to the project, balancing functionality with craftsmanship.

A defining feature of the rear extension is the circular rooflight, which introduces natural light deep into the plan while creating a striking focal point within the living space. The soft geometry of the opening contrasts with the clean lines of the architecture, adding a sense of playfulness and delight.

The bathrooms continue this approach through the use of pink microcement, creating seamless surfaces with a distinctive character. Bold yet refined, the material palette was chosen to bring warmth and personality to everyday spaces.

The rear and upper-floor extensions have been carefully integrated into the existing Victorian structure, increasing the available living space while respecting the proportions and character of the original house.

The result is a bright and joyful family home that combines contemporary design, bespoke craftsmanship and expressive materials to create spaces full of light, warmth and individuality.
